The Model 39 was deemed a reliable handgun but not perfect. The original extractor design was changed in the 39-2 variation. The sights were changed from simple windage adjustable to a much better grade in the 39-2’s late model incarnations.
I'm considering a Model 39 to use as a carry gun.
Any exprience with these pistols ? I have handeled several over the years, but never fired one.
I really like the feel and the grip shape, and I think the old pistol might make a good carry piece.
Any experience with them? Thanks.

Thirty-one years before the United States military adopted the the M9 Beretta as its primary service pistol, Smith and Wesson designed and submitted a 9mm double action pistol for military trials. The year was 1954 and the pistol was the Smith and Wesson Model 39.
